Summer is finally here and that means a few weeks of soaring temperatures, sweltering offices and sun-soaked trips to the beach (fingers crossed!) so you need to be prepared. Keep your skin happy and your sanity intact during the hot weather with these must-have products that won’t break the bank.

A Tinted SPF

When it’s hot, sun protection is a must, but the routine of applying layer after layer of product in the morning is something we can do without. Step forward the tinted SPF, a product that takes care of multiple jobs leaving you free to get on with your day without worrying about your face becoming increasingly greasy until home time. The Hydropeptide Solar Defense Tinted provides broad spectrum protection in a lightweight, matte finish formula that evens out your complexion, essentially negating the need for foundation, whether you’re facing a long commute or a day at the beach.

A Cooling Spray

Aside from a good quality sunscreen, we couldn’t survive Summer without a refreshing facial mist to cool us down when things get a little too hot and humid. An oldie but a goodie is the Avène Thermal Water Spray. Packed with water from their thermal spring in France, this weightless mist can be used to bring down the temperature of the skin, refresh dry patches, soothe irritation and calm angry skin after a day lounging in the sun. We say, keep one at work, one in your handbag and one stored away for travelling.

A Healing Gel

Speaking of sunburn, if, for some unforeseen reason, you leave the beach or beer garden looking more red than pink this Summer, it’s important to have a product in your collection that can repair and take the sting out of sizzled skin. Our favourite for the face is the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque, which contains Hyaluronic Acid and botanical extracts to ease uncomfortable and tight skin. Leave it on for a few minutes or do as we do and apply a thick layer to parched areas and leave on overnight. For larger areas of the body, try the Ultrasun After Sun.

A Protection-Boosting Supplement

If you know your skin tends to burn or you are jetting off somewhere that is expecting seriously high temperatures, boost the skin’s natural UV defences by taking a supplement packed with cell-supporting ingredients and antioxidants to complement the protecting powers of any topical sunscreen. Try the Heliocare Oral Capsules, which help to increase the skin’s resistance to burning and limit collagen destruction by UVA rays. Take one every day in the run up to your Summer holiday or every morning if you are staying home.

A Refreshing Moisturiser

The skin can quickly become sweaty and sticky if you continue to use your heavy Winter moisturiser in the Summer, so switch to something lighter and more refreshing when the temperatures rise. If you have oily skin, it’s a good idea to switch to a moisturiser with mattifying benefits, such as the Sesderma Salises Moisturizing Gel Cream, which gently unblocks the pores and prevents pimples throughout the day. For drier skins, try the Agera Deep Hydration Gel Cream which deeply conditions the skin without making it sticky.
