Get ready because we are obsessed with yet another social media make-up trend and this time, it’s all about accentuating and emphasising the eyes through the clever use of shadow and shimmer. Here’s how to rock the halo eye trend in three easy steps.
Step 1: Laying the Foundation
If you are going to spend time creating a specific eye look, you need to make sure the eyelids are smooth and even, with no discolouration poking through and ruining the fun. Buff either a matte eye primer over the lid or use your usual under-eye concealer to create a base. If you are using concealer, remember to dust a little translucent powder onto the lids afterwards to prevent the concealer from creasing and breaking down your eyeshadow.
Step 2: Shape and Add Shadow
Now you can start to give your eyes some shape and definition. Start by taking a warm matte brown eyeshadow on a small fluffy brush and blending it into the entire socket line, making sure everything looks soft and diffused. This will act as a transition colour and be the cohesive glue that pulls the final look together. Then, take a dark matte eyeshadow and blend it into the inner and outer corners of the eye. The shade you use is up to you; you could go for brown, green, purple, orange, blue or pink depending on your confidence with colour. Once this shade has been blended into the skin, apply the same colour along the lower lash line, leaving a gap in the middle to mirror the placement of the eyeshadow on the upper lid.
Step 3: Time to Shine
Once the shape has been perfected, now you can move on to the exciting part: the shimmer. Take a sparkling shadow – in either a complementary or clashing colour to the matte shade already used – and press it onto the centre of the eyelid using your fingers or a flat brush. Concentrate the colour right in the middle of the eye, to really catch the light, then softly blend the edges so that the shimmer seamlessly disappears into the matte shade. Do the same on the lower lash line, applying shimmer to the centre and blending until the two shades merge together with no harsh lines. You can also add a touch of shimmer to the very inner corner of the eyes, to prevent this area from appearing too dark and hooded.
Finish the look off with plenty of mascara and perfectly defined eyebrows, to frame and complement all the hard work you did on the eyes, then apply the rest of your make-up as you normally would. And that’s all there is to it! On-trend halo eyes in less than ten minutes. Will you be trying this trend?
