The menopause is one of the times of your life when your hormones have a huge impact on your skin. As we age the levels of collagen in our skin fall naturally but during the menopause this drop accelerates and skin can lose up to 30% of its collagen during this time.
Menopause usually starts in your late forties/early fifties but can start as early as your thirties, although this is rare. There are a number of telltale signs of menopause from sudden hot flushes and sweats to very dry, dehydrated and loose skin (due to the drop in collagen levels).
There are three stages of the menopause: Perimenopause, Menopause and Post-menopause. Each stage has its own symptoms and if you're going through menopause you'll be able to relate to each one. To find out more on these stages, click here to read our blog post.
